Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information The Amsterdamian ("we," "us," "our") collects when you visit our bar, browse theamsterdamian.com, join our loyalty program, make a reservation, or sign up for SMS updates — and what we do with that information.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to seat you, log your visits for our loyalty program, and reach out when there’s something worth telling you about.
You give us directly
- Loyalty & account info: name, email, phone number (optional), and visit history when you join our loyalty program.
- Reservation info: name, email, phone, party size, date and time, occasion, and any notes you provide when booking a table.
- Waitlist info: name, email, phone, party size, and notes when you self-add to the walk-in waitlist via QR.
- Payment info: if you purchase a gift card, event ticket, or your reservation requires a card on file, your card details are collected directly by Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.
- Reviews and feedback: any rating, comment, or note you choose to send us through the post-visit review form or feedback channel.
We collect automatically
- Visit logs: when staff scans your loyalty QR pass in the bar, we record a timestamp tied to your loyalty record.
- Technical info: IP address and basic browser metadata when you submit a form, used for rate-limiting and fraud prevention.
- Cookies / local storage: we use the browser's local storage to remember things like dismissed popups and your loyalty pass session. See Cookies and analytics.
2. How we use your information
- To run the loyalty program (logging visits, unlocking rewards, generating your QR pass).
- To confirm reservations, send reminders, and handle changes or cancellations.
- To notify you when your waitlist table is ready.
- To send transactional messages (reservation confirmations, expiry reminders, gift card receipts) via email and — if you opt in — SMS.
- To send marketing email — only if you separately opt in — about events, specials, and what’s happening at the bar. We do not use SMS for marketing.
- To process payments through Stripe for gift cards, event tickets, and (where applicable) no-show fees.
- To prevent abuse, fraud, and spam, including rate-limiting public forms.
- To improve our hospitality — for example, knowing that you’re a regular helps our staff greet you well.
3. SMS program (text messaging)
If you opt in to receive SMS from The Amsterdamian, we will send you transactional messages only — we do not use SMS for marketing or promotional messages.
Transactional messages include things like:
- Reservation confirmations and reminders
- “Your table is ready” notifications when you’re on the walk-in waitlist
- Gift card or event ticket receipts
- Direct replies to any inquiry you send us
Message frequency may vary — messages are sent only when tied to a specific action you took (e.g. making a reservation). Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. Reply HELP for assistance. Your mobile information will not be sold or shared with third parties for promotional or marketing purposes.
4. Who we share information with
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Period. We share the minimum necessary with service providers who help us run the bar:
- Stripe — payment processing for gift cards, event tickets, and reservation card holds. See their privacy policy.
- Brevo — transactional and marketing email + SMS delivery. See their privacy policy.
- Supabase — our cloud database and authentication. See their privacy policy.
- Netlify — static hosting for our public website. See their privacy policy.
We may also disclose information when required by law, when responding to a valid legal process, or when necessary to protect rights, property, or safety.
5. Cookies and analytics
Our public site uses the browser’s local storage to remember things like dismissed reservation nudges, your loyalty pass session, and pre-selected booking preferences. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
Where analytics are in use, they are configured to anonymize visitor IPs and are not used to build cross-site behavioral profiles.
6. How long we keep information
- Loyalty records: for as long as you have an active loyalty pass, or up to 24 months of inactivity before we may purge.
- Reservations: retained for at least 18 months for operational and audit purposes, then archived or deleted.
- Waitlist entries: closed entries are retained for 30 days, then deleted.
- Payment records: retained as required by tax and accounting law, typically 7 years.
- SMS / email consent records: retained while you remain opted in, plus 24 months after opt-out for compliance and audit purposes.
7. Your rights and choices
The fastest way to exercise any of the rights below is our Privacy Request form — it routes straight to our team and we’ll confirm by email. You can also email us directly (see Contact us).
You can:
- Access your loyalty record and reservation history — submit a request and we’ll send you a copy.
- Update your name, email, or phone via your loyalty pass page or via the request form.
- Delete your record entirely. We’ll honor deletion within 30 days, subject to any legal hold (e.g. open tax records).
- Opt out of marketing email by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email, or via the form.
- Opt out of SMS by replying STOP to any text we send, or via the form.
8. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information — encrypted connections (HTTPS), encrypted-at-rest databases, role-based access controls, and a tightly limited staff who can see customer records. No system is perfect, but we treat your data as if it were our own.
9. Children's privacy
The Amsterdamian is a bar. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 21. If you believe a minor has provided us with information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.
10. California residents
If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you specific rights about your personal information, including the right to know what we have collected, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of any “sale” of personal information (we don’t sell yours, but you have the right anyway). Use the Privacy Request form or email us at the address below to exercise any of these rights.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the homepage and (if you’re on our list) emailed to you.
